I worked in different publishing company for 10 years now, and I can say this is a very good starting ground to work on your creativity. There are long hours, stressful days, but the outcome of these are remarkable in a way. Some of these layout, I am also working as
the photographer (multi-tasking that is). I think that is a great advantage because you can envision on your layout where you can place the text...eventually.
The best part is to actually work on the cover.
